Rolling
Stones - Compilations
Below are
some the more relevant Rolling Stones compilations.
The two
disc Forty Licks is the overall best compilation, but that is
far from perfect or comprehensive. What is needed is a four or five disc
box set, and greatest hits albums that are more niche oriented. For
example,
Jump Back: Best of 71-93 is too short. It should be 1971 - '75
for volume one (sort of expanded Made In The Shade), and 1976
- the present for volume two. There is certainly enough worthy material.

In The Shade: 71-75 |
 |
|
Made in the Shade was originally released
in June 1975 to promote the Stones' 1975 American tour. It skims the
surface of the delights from the bands first four albums of the
seventies -- Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main St., Goats Head Soup and
It's Only Rock 'N' Roll.
The targeted greatest hits packages like
this one, which focus on a particular period can often be just what
the doctor ordered for casual or curious fans. One drawback is
that the re-issued LP has a lot of room for bonus tracks.

Five Guys Walk into a Bar
Product Description
From 1969 to 1975 the Faces - Rod Stewart, Ian McLagan, Ron Wood, Ronnie Lane, and Kenney Jones - played their loose and joyful blues and soul-inflected rock 'n' roll with reckless abandon, consummate skill, and immeasurable charm. For those few years they were arguably the greatest band on the planet, and their influence has resonated ever since through the music of countless acts, from the Sex Pistols to The Replacements to The Black Crowes, and on and on. After the Faces dissolved in 1975, Stewart went on to solo superstardom, Wood to the Stones, Jones to The Who, McLagan to world - class session work and his own recordings, and Lane to acclaimed solo projects before he succumbed to multiple sclerosis in 1997. Greater than the sum of its parts, the Faces made now - immortal music for which there will never, ever be a last call.
