Live
at the Keystone Vol. 2 review
Live at
the Keystone Volume 2 is the second installment of a previously
released series of albums that have been reissued. This is a
four-piece band that often performed live in the Bay Area. At those
performances it was common to have Bay Area musical artists sit in
and jam with them.
The
centerpiece of Live at the Keystone Volume 2 is the jazz standard
“My Funny Valentine.” I would rate this version good at
best. The first seven minutes are great, but thereafter the band
noodles around without direction and they never develop the jam.
The rendition of “Like a Road” is fabulous both vocally and
instrumentally. The final number "Mystery Train" has
blistering guitar riffs and "Big River" type melodies
throughout -- a great ending to the disc.
Live at the Keystone Volume
2 has many great moments. Outside of the 15 minutes of “My Funny
Valentine” that never develop there are no other faults. by Barry
