Devon Allman's Honeytribe

Press release

ATLANTA, GA – July 19, 2006 – On August 29th, Livewire Recordings will release Torch, the full-length debut from DEVON ALLMAN’S HONEYTRIBE.

HONEYTRIBE is a passionate, guitar-driven blues/rock band based in St. Louis.   Allman, son of the legendary Gregg Allman, fronts the band on vocals and guitar and is joined by an ensemble cast of A-list musicians, including George Potsos on bass, Jack Kirkner on Hammond B3 and piano, and Mark Oyarzabal on drums. Fans of artists such as Santana, BB King, ZZ Top, The Black Crowes, Widespread Panic and Gov't Mule will enjoy this genuine feel good music from the soul, for the soul.

Torch is a collection of 11 songs, and was recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, TN.  Devon Allman co-produced the record with Pete Matthews (Paul Simon, North Mississippi Allstars), who also mixed the tracks.

“We are honored and excited to be working with Devon and HONEYTRIBE. They are an amazing live band and are true recording artists,” said Colin Cobb, President Livewire Recordings. “Aside from studio albums, we will be releasing a series of live records. Devon and his band truly live up to the Allman name.”

Devon comments, “Livewire Recordings is a label that prides itself on making the music come first.  The short sightedness of major labels with soul-less corporate structures made me seek out a company that wants to do things the right way.”

HONEYTRIBE will be touring extensively in the U.S. and Europe this summer and fall.  In late November, HONEYTRIBE will hit the road for an extended tour as the opening band for GREGG ALLMAN & FRIENDS.

Livewire Recordings is an Atlanta-based, full-service independent record label focused on up and coming rock acts, with an understanding that music is more than just a product. Striving to fuel artist creativity and assist in development artistically, professionally and commercially. Their artist-oriented, hands-on approach illustrates the company’s dedication and commitment to further the music careers of their compelling talent. Current acts include singer/songwriter Ashton Allen Dewdrops, southern power-pop band The Rewinds, and Nashville pop-rock foursome, The Comfies (October 2006).  Livewire is distributed by Ryko Distribution.

Torch review

The Honeytribe is led by Devon Allman, Gregg Allman's son. Their debut album is entitled Torch. The music is not southern rock, rather it leans more to hard rock with an emphasis on blues. Devon voice is not sensational, but it fits the music quite well. His vocals sounds a bit like Elvis Costello on "When I Call Home," and "Nothing to Be Sad About," but more like Rainbow's Ronnie James Dio (without the high range) on "Perfect World."

Torch includes two instrumentals, "Mahalo," and "511 Texas Avenue" both are quite good and among the best material on the album. "Mahalo" is a jammed out rocker while "511 Texas Avenue" is an acoustic song bringing back memories of Eat a Peach's "Little Martha."

The band and songwriting is good yielding a solid band that has a solid future. Get a microscope out to read the album cover notes.
