From the Vault I
is the first in a series of releases of Grateful Dead concerts
captured on video. This package offers the complete concert from
July 8, 1990, at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
with added filler from July 6, 1990, at Cardinal Stadium in
Louisville, KY. This is available as a DVD, VHS or as an audio only
set list is typical for the time of the recording with nothing out
of the ordinary played. The performance is certainly nothing to
complain about, but it is not the cream of the crop. Certainly,
there is not as much to choose from in the Grateful Dead’s vault
in the form of video as they have in audio.
first set includes their live first release of “Touch of Grey and
a great jam in “Let it Grow” featuring Phil Lesh.
The second set is good, but not great. Pre drums, the
“Terrapin Station” > “Jam” is the most interesting. Bob
Weir dominates the post “Space” segment, as he takes the lead on
four of the five songs.
you’re looking for the CD you may want to examine some of the
Dick’s Picks series first. If you want the DVD or VHS, this is
worthwhile. by Barry
