Dylan and the Dead review

I had the opportunity to see three of the six Dylan and the Dead performances that took place in the summer of 1987.  My recollection from the concerts is that Jerry Garcia played a lot of accompanying melodic phrasing lines behind Dylan’s singing; I do not hear that on this CD.

If you are a Grateful Dead fan you’ll probably get more mileage from Postcards Of The Hanging, a CD of the Grateful Dead performing Bob Dylan songs. If you are a Dylan fan you’ll be better off with either his studio work or his live album Before The Flood that has The Band backing him up.

There is a lot better material that could have been selected for this release, both live and the Club Front rehearsal sessions.   Therefore, I could not recommend this to either Grateful Dead or Bob Dylan fans. by Barry Small©
