Derek and
the Dominoes Live at the Fillmore was recorded at two
performances in October 1970. It replaced an earlier album entitled In
Concert by adding four songs and replacing three others with
alternative takes. This includes the same band line up as Derek and
the Dominoes only studio album Layla
and Other Assorted Love Songs excluding Duane Allman.
After all, he was only a guest on it and not a member of the
band.
Live
at the Fillmore includes plenty of extended jamming throughout
the two discs with five songs clocking in at over 10 minutes,
several considerably longer. Many of the song selections come from
the CD's Layla and Other
Assorted Love Songs and Eric
Clapton. The
versions of "Bottle of Red Wine" and "Have You Ever
Loved a Women" are brilliantly played and are some of the many
highlights.
Derek and the Dominoes Live
at the Fillmore is Eric Clapton at his peak and his features
perhaps his best supporting cast. If you want to hear Eric Clapton
melting guitar solos off of his fret board this your front row
ticket. As of this writing we rank this as Eric Clapton’s best
live effort. If you enjoy this release you will also cherish the Derek
and the Dominoes 20th Anniversary Edition,
particularly the jams.
