The Layla Sessions: 20th Anniversary Edition set is a three-disc release that includes the original album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, alternative versions, and the jams.  We know what to expect from the original album, a classic. The alternative versions range from good to great and is worth playing from time to time; it includes some extending jamming during the two versions of "Tell the Truth," and “Have You Ever Loved a Woman.”  The real treat is the jams. Here we get to listen Eric Clapton open up and let loose on his guitar at the prime of his career. I think these jams capture the improvisational side of him better than most of his live albums - perhaps it is the sound quality, his back up band, his playing, or a combination of these characteristics.
