The Last Waltz The
farewell performance of The Band was at The Winterland in San
Francisco on Thanksgiving Day 1976. In 1978 the original Martin Scorsese film was released; remastered
in 2002 with lots of bonus material.
Sitting in with The Band on various songs
through the evening is an all
star list of musical legends, including Bob Dylan, Eric
Clapton, Muddy Waters, and so many others.
This concert is so legendary that it is
still talked about today. If The Last Waltz is used as
a litmus test to define rock videos, most would fall
short.

section that has additional information about The
Last Waltz.

While
not the Grateful Dead, you may be interested in Dark Star
Orchestra's DVD, Live At The Fillmore.
Live At the Fillmore is Dark Star
Orchestra's recreation of the May 5, 1977, show. I am not aware of
any Grateful Dead 1977 concert videos so this is next best thing,
and it is definitely worthwhile.
Dark Star Orchestra is excellent and this DVD will
silence any doubters. This recreation was recorded on May 8, 2004,
at the Fillmore in San Francisco, and features-- flashback, the
Grateful Dead's own Donna Jean Godchaux, who performs
on select songs. There are more Grateful Dead
connections as the art on the packaging was created by Stanley
"Mouse" Miller and an original Dead sound crew member Bob
Matthews is the executive producer, and more (you'll have to read
the liner notes to find out).
So far I have watched the first set. The
highlights include "Sugaree," Supplication," and
"The Music Never Stopped."
Live At the Fillmore includes:
the DVD of the complete concert
a four page booklet
a two-disc audio companion.

DVD History |
|
Product Description:
Deep Purple in 1972 were reaching the height of their success, with hit singles and albums worldwide. Into this heady atmosphere they delivered one of the most famous rock albums of all time, 'Machine Head'.
1972 saw them premier the new album at concerts in Europe, Japan and America (with no fewer than six tours there that year), delivering the powerful new 'Machine Head' set. It was a concert in the Danish capital of Copenhagen that the first (and only) full film of the famous Mk 2 line-up presented here was made, and is now available on DVD for the first time.
Recorded March 1, 1972, it was originally filmed by Danmark Radio, Denmark's national radio and television station. The actual
black and white footage was never screened in full and ended up lying dormant in the company's vaults.
The tour continued through to 1973 when Deep Purple returned to America, selling out more shows and shifting more albums than they had ever done. A camera crew turned up to film the group in New York in May for the 'In Concert' show, and this is also released here for the first time in glorious color (on any format), including the only performance of the line-up doing 'Smoke on The Water’.
LINEUP:
Ritchie Blackmore: Guitar
Ian Gillan: Vocals
Roger Glover: Bass
Jon Lord: Keyboards
Ian Paice: Drums
*David Coverdale: Vocals on Bonus Track |

Beyond
The Beginning
Between 1970 and 1978,
Emerson, Lake and Palmer were one of the most exciting rock
bands on the planet. From their stunning start at the Isle of
Wight Festival, they were never afraid to tear up the rulebook
and take risks, both on stage and on vinyl.
A year in the making, this
stunning 2 disc set pulls together the great moments from one of
the great moments from one of the 70’s most successful and
exiting bands; Emerson, Lake and Palmer. For most of the decade,
this dynamic trio pushed back the boundaries of what was
possible in rock. Ambitious musical projects, massive over the
top stage shows and an insatiable desire to try bigger and
better things meant that it could not last, but for several
years, this was 70s rock at its very best.
‘Beyond The Beginning’
features performances from every stage of their career,
including 44 minutes of ELP headlining the massive California
Jam Festival in 1974 on Disc 2. This rare and spectacular
footage has never been released before and captures the band at
the peak of their powers with a production to match. Much sought
after by fans, this film includes the famous spinning piano
sequence.
With a host of extras, the
DVD also contains the full length version of ‘Beyond The
Beginning’, an hour-long documentary, which tells the story of
this remarkable band with refreshing honesty and candor.
Extras on disc one include:
Extended edit of unseen rehearsal film from 1973, exclusive
interview with Bob Moog, talking at length about his involvement
with Keith Emerson and of ELP’s sound.
Disc Two:
Beyond The Beginning – 60 minute documentary about the
rise and fall of ELP
California Jam 1974 – full
44 minute performance from this monster one-day festival with
ELP’s never released headlining performance.
