Before the Flood review

Before the Flood is a live recording from the Bob Dylan and The Band’s 1974 tour, it reached # 3 on the charts. It includes Bob Dylan songs performed electric with The Band backing him up to open and close the show. As The Band is so talented and familiar with Bob Dylan’s songs, it is no surprise that the songs are all performed exceptionally. In between the Dylan electric sets, The Band play several of their best songs to perfection. And Bob Dylan sings three songs of his hits solo, "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," "Just Like a Woman," and "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)." 

Before The Flood will please both Bob Dylan and The Band fans. If you favor Dylan this among is his best live releases. If you are a Band fan you can hear them perform and let loose on their own compositions in stunning fashion. Even if you have their other albums like Rock of Ages, and The Last Waltz, these renditions are smoking. One thing that those albums do not include that makes Before The Flood a must have is the Dylan songs. Hearing The Band perform these songs is among their finest musical moments, they have many. by Barry Small ©
