The Brown Album
review
The Bands
second release and an undeniable classic of North American roots
music with hints of folk, gospel, country, rhythm & blues, soul,
funk, and rock & roll intertwined. Interesting to note is that
Robbie Robertson wrote most of the material while their first
release was more of a group effort. This CD reached Reached # 9.
This CD
is often referred to as “The Brown Album”; it
yielded The Band with their first certified platinum in December
1991. The album's single, "Up on Cripple Creek," became
The Band's first and only top 30 issue. It was one of several songs
on the album that had an "old-timey" feel. Other
highlights include "Rag Mama Rag," "The Night They
Drove Old Dixie Down," and "King Harvest."
The
reissue has several alternative outtakes. by Barry
